At 19, most kids have yet to strike out on their own. Those who do, however, are usually either very ambitious or talented or precocious. In the case of AGNES MONICA, you might say all three traits apply. The pop sensation has won over a generation of Indonesian kids raised on boy bands, bubble gum and bad television. Yet to her credit, this singing and dance sensation has crafted her own brand of dance music, blending pop, R&B and a little bit of romance.
After spending most of her teen years on local soaps and starring in countless commercials, the Jakarta native decided to take on the music world in 2003. Her first album that year earned solid reviews and numerous awards and helped her make the transition to a video-friendly hit-maker. Her follow-up effort "Whaddup A?" reveals a more adventurous attempt at working with established musicians like Melly Goeslaw and Erwin Gutawa. The result is a fresh sound with crossover appeal that has put this budding diva on the road to pop stardom.
