What can you say about a legend other than his music will live on for generations. Broery was such an inspiration
to Indonesian musicians in the 1970s that even one of its biggest stars had to pay homage. "There are many singers but only Broery
could really sing with all his heart and soul," said Chrisye, the godfather of Indonesian pop music. Born in the Maluku islands,
Broery Marantika grew up singing in church and at home with family. He picked up numerous awards during a career that spanned several
decades and inspired countless singers from eastern Indonesia. Unfortunately, he never returned to form after suffering a stroke in
1998. He passed away two years later. Now, 15 of his classic hits are available for the world to discover and for Indonesians who
will always have a special place in their heart for this Ambonese legend.
