Gallery of Kisses
This performance recorded live in Jakarta features a wide range of talent, from harpist
Maya Hasan and noted jazz singer Syaharani to acappella group Jamaica Café. Taped in 2002 at Taman Ismail
Marzuki, the 12 songs accompanied a remarkable three-day performance by the EKI Dance Company. As a theatre
piece, "Gallery of Kisses" explored the power of a kiss and its various expressions of lust, affection,
friendship and as social greeting. With a cast that included actors Sujiwo Tejo, Rachel Maryam and Farhan
along with writer Tommy F. Awuy and presenters Nico Siahaan and Indra Safera, the play unfolds as a model
marriage and family unravel due to extramarital affairs. As the family attempts to pick up the pieces,
the story tries to remind the audience how so much of modern-day life in Indonesia is dominated more by
violence than love. The soundtrack takes the listener on a similar journey through a selection of songs
and compositions created especially for this unique work of art.
