The first soundtrack arranged by Aksara Records turned out to be an award-winning proposition.
"Janji Joni" took home a number of prizes in 2005, including MTV Asia's Best Film Of The Year Award. The soundtrack
features some of the best artists on the Jakarta-based label along with strong tracks by several other up- and-coming
indie bands. Both the film and the music herald the rejuvenation of a pop culture in Indonesia that has been mired
in mediocrity for decades. From the filmmaker Joko Anwar and the label which continues to expand the dimensions of
independent music, this soundtrack proves that small budget projects can have huge appeal.
