This accomplished keyboardist rose to fame playing fairly mainstream music with the Ada Band in the 1990s. Yet his solo effort marks a serious departure and foray into the world of jazz instrumentals. Produced by jazz virtuoso Indra Lesmana, "Sign of Eight" is a coming of age for this father of one. Working with some of the best musicians in the country (Gilang Ramadhan, Dewa Budjana, Tohpati Ario Hutomo), the former piano teacher was nominated for a number of awards when the album was released in 2002. Jazz is still an underappreciated genre in Indonesia but productions like this are making the art-form more accessible to the masses through its light touch and mellow vibe.
