This Jakarta-native has been part of the Indonesian music scene since the late 1980s and has
released five albums to date. She is one of the few female singers in Indonesia to have achieved commercial
success while writing songs about social issues and gender discrimination. Outspoken and critical, her brand
of folk music has long resonated with students and activists impatient for change in a largely patriarchal
society. She continues to organize youth-oriented events that encourage social awareness and critical thinking,
rare in today's world of boy bands and pop tarts. Her album "Lagu Bagus" features ten re-arranged and
re-recorded songs from her previous albums plus two new tracks. She is currently at work on a new album
set to be released at the end of 2006.
