Who says Indonesians studying in the US don't put their tuition money to good use? These two guys may have been taking
degrees in California but it's not clear how much of their time was spent checking out the thrash-metal scene instead
of hitting the books. One-half of SIC MYNDED tells of the history behind this group's first effort. "We were trying to
meet the girls in the apartment next door and thought music would probably work best," recalls Oddie Octaviadi, a
pioneer of the Jakarta metal scene. That was back in 1995, when the duo knew they had to get some, um, creative release.
The result: ten songs on the edge of industrial metal, with Oddie growling and programming to the noise generated by
his occasional roomate and budding filmmaker Rudy Sudjarwo. The two cranked out another one-and-a-half albums (in order
to please their neighbors, no doubt) but have since gone on to work in different industries. Oddie works in television
in San Francisco while Rudy has gone on to direct several of the most highly-acclaimed films made in Indonesia in recent
years, including blockbuster "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta". A reunion is not in the cards and their albums are no longer in
circulation, so take advantage of this rare offering and make sure you crank it up next time you're cramming for an
exam. Both managed to graduate on time so it must have worked for them!
