The name of this group reflects the Jamaican influences in their music, which borrows from the best traditions of reggae, dance hall and dub. The group has undergone a number of personnel changes since coming together during the turmoil of 1998, when the dictator Suharto was overthrown. After soldiering on for a few more years, in 2004, a new lineup came together with an interest in throwing in elements of metal, ska, drum n’ bass and hip hop. For the band members, the latest formation has allowed them to “feel more free in making music” but they confess that their struggle for meaning, like Indonesia’s, remains a day-to-day battle.
