They were only in high school when they met but they were already stressed out. Coplet and Bayu only had a bass guitar and drum kit between them but they knew they had to get some release so they went into a studio near the school and started to jam. Two was obviously not enough and they started looking for recruits - with instruments, of course. They called up an old friend Putu, who had a guitar, and formed the Rebel Aliens in 1996. Their skills were lacking but their determination was not. The band played some gigs but realized they needed to take on a rhythm guitarist. They found one in Cox-D and with the fourth member THE BREWS were born.

While their influences ran from punk bands the Sex Pistols, Ramones and the Misfits, they also shared a love for the later generation and bands like Bad Religion, NOFX and Rancid. The speed and angst of thos e seminal bands were an inspiration but they wanted to upgrade the sound into something of their own. Drawing on the blues, the band slowed it down and finally came upon what they call "melodic bluesy punk." The sound is still open to interpretation but the band is quickly carving out its own territory in the vibrant punk rock scene on Bali.
