This band got its start back in 1995 playing songs by Voodoo Glow Skull and Operation Ivy, a California
band in the 1980s that pioneered a music combining Jamaican ska and punk rock. While the sound of TIPE-X has been rounded
out since then, taking on the pop shadings of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones or Level 42, it remains eternally upbeat and
optimistic. Well-dressed in skinny ties and little hats, the seven members have helped popularize a musical genre that
has gotten bigger as more outdoor festivals are organized. Once again, the musical diversity of Indonesia is on display
as this band moves ska one step beyond.
