Tony Prabowo

 
           

tony prabowo

Born in 1956, Prabowo is one of Indonesia's most prominent and prolific composers of contemporary music. Apart from his works with western ensembles, he has also composed unique contemporary works with traditional Indonesian musicians. Prabowo's music has been performed in the US, Europe, Australia and South Korea.

PERFORMANCES

• Mediation on Lu Xun II
(His first choral work, premiered by
the Batavia Madrigal Singers and
conducted by Avip Priatna in 2000)
won first prize at the Choir Festival
in Linz, Austria

• The King's Witch
An experimental opera performed
(without stage dramatization) by
the New Juilliard Ensemble at Alice
Tully Hall, Lincoln Center in 2000

• Commonality I
For viola and pre-recorded tape.
Premiered in 1998 by violist Stephanie
Griffin in New York, Seattle, Chicago
and Jakarta

• Requiem for Strings
In the Tanglewood Festival by the
composer-conductor Tan Dun (1998)

• Bedtime Story
Music for soprano and mixed
ensemble, and Autumnal Steps, for
orchestra. Both premiered in 1996 by
the New Juilliard Ensemble in
Lincoln Center

• Empty Tradition
A collaboration with the Chinese-
American dancer-choreographer
Ying Mei at the Jacob's Pillow Dance
Festival and the Asia Society, New York

• Blurred Vision
An experimental drama performed at
the Theatre for the New City, New York
